Missionaries
Greetings from Manila, Philippines! We would like to introduce ourselves to you. We are Nathaniel and Mabel Hutchison along with our 3 children, Luke (9 yrs old), Noah (6 yrs old) and Chloe (4 yrs old). We are missionaries from Grace Bible Church in Escondido and we have been serving here in the Philippines since September 2001.
The Lord has given me (Nathaniel) the opportunity to teach at a seminary/Bible school called Febias Bible college. I have the opportunity to teach both undergrad and graduate classes. I often teach three to four classes per semester, about 2-3 days a week. Some of those classes are OT Survey, Prophets, Biblical Theology, Romans, Counseling, and Hermeneutics. The teaching load makes for an extra busy week but I am grateful for the many opportunities which God has given to me. Please pray that I will teach all my subjects for the glory of God. As you are probably just getting started with school there in the US, here in the Philippines we are done or just about done with our first semester of school. We thank the Lord for sustaining us through the first 3 1/2 months of school.
Aside from teaching at the Bible college I am also serving as one of the elders at Cornerstone Community Baptist Church (CCBC) here in Metro Manila (Quezon City). The church here transitioned to plurality of elders two years ago and we are thankful for how God has blessed us. We’ve used much of the constitution from Grace Bible Church in Escondido and Jim Newheiser has been a godly counselor to us. Cornerstone began as a church that believed in the doctrines of grace but after a few years it was no longer taught from the pulpit. It is my desire to teach the whole counsel of God to our people here and by God’s grace our church is growing together in this area. At the end of October we will finish our study of the gospel of Mark.
We praise God for many professions of faith and baptisms this year. Two weeks ago we baptized six people who joined in membership with us. Just across the busy street where our church is located is a large Catholic church. We praise God that some of our new members this year have come to our church, heard the gospel, and believed the good news. Please pray that these new members will be grounded in the Word of God and grow in their love for Christ.
My wife Mabel is busy homeschooling for part of the day as well as leading several ladies Bible studies throughout the week. Mabel was born in the Philippines and moved to the U.S. in 1986. Every Friday evening we host a young professionals Bible study which meets at our house. We started this ministry this year and have been so thankful to see our young people come and study the Bible together. We just finished studying a good book by John Piper. We have enjoyed a packed house each Friday as young people come to fellowship. Please pray that these young people would grow strong in their faith and that God would raise some of the men to be future leaders.
In November our church will focus on missions and evangelism. Please pray that God would be pleased to use our church to reach many sinners with the gospel. We thank you for your prayers and support for us. We will periodically update you of our ministry here. Feel free to contact us anytime, through e-mail, skype or facebook.
Soli Deo Gloria,
Nathaniel and Mabel
